Travel: Russia | Saint Petersburg - love life love fashion

Санкт-Петербург, or simply said: Saint Petersburg. Russia was the first place on our list ‘To Do’ list during our time in Finland. In between classes, parties, exploring Helsinki and sauna visits, we kinda got used to the cold in Helsinki. Can you imagine that?! Anyway, it was time for a new challenge:

Helllo-25°C/-13°F and a wind as cold as ice.

Talking about freezing your butt off! Smiling was kinda painful and taking out gloves to take pictures was only for the brave ones around us.

Getting there (we went with an enormous and beautiful ship called Princess Marie) took 18 hours of sailing because of the bad weather conditions. Quite long, but we were there with an awesome group so time flied. Also the karaoke bar, evening shows and shops on board did there part. I couldn’t help to see flashes of several scenes from the Titanic movie crossed my mind. Especially because the ship had to brake itself a way through the ice. Pretty impressive to see.

Anyway, slowly but steadily, we got to Saint Petersburg. The view from on the boat was… unique, to say the least. At night it was like we were on a ghost ship. Beautiful but scary. (#TitanicPanicMode)

KAZAN CATHEDRAL

I was surprised to learn that this is a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church. Doesn’t really seemed to look like a typical cathedral to me.

HERMITAGE MUSEUM

The most popular place to visit of Saint Petersburg for sure and one of the largest and oldest art and cultural museums in the world. The entrance fee is not super cheap (around $18), but I have good news too: the entrance is free for students and kids and for the rest of us on every first Thursday of the month. Remember this if you’re planning a trip! We had a complete Mc Donalds menu for $5 each when we went. Just saying, plenty of other ways you could be spending those saved bucks.

SAINT ISAAC’S CATHEDRAL

I’m in love with building. Isn’t it beautiful! Totally get why it took 40 years to build this!

THE CHURCH OF THE SAVIOR ON SPILLED BLOOD

Along the Griboyedov Canal you come across another one of those most visited places. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood — Crazy beautiful hu! Especially when the sun reflects on it.

Architecturally, this Cathedral differs from any other buildings they have in Saint Petersburg. The city’s architecture is mostly baroque and neoclassical, but the Savior on Blood is the only one build in the spirit of romantic nationalism. The contrast between those styles is just huge.
