What?!
Qu’est-ce que c’est? The Smooth affair for oily skin facial primer & brightener! In other words, a primer and a brightener in one that will make your make up last through the entire day. And it’s specially designed for people with oily skin (like myself). It’s also the new baby brother of the regular Smooth affair facial primer & brightener. The version that wasn’t specifically made for oily skin types.
What’s so different about this one? Well, it uses a revolutionary PoreAway technology along with state-of-the-art mineral science that visibly reduces shine to create the ideal makeup canvas. It also noticeably reduces the appearance of pores and fights blemishes. It creates a smooth, matte finish for an even skin tone, while employing advanced mineral technology that color-adjusts to your skin.
First impressions
A new version? Cool! Especially made for people with oily skin? Aaargh for real?!! When I read the packaging of The Smooth Affair for oily skin, everything sounded like music to my ears and I spontaneously made a little jump for joy. Event though I’m already using the Jane Iredale standard smooth affair for the last 6 months (very happily I might add), a promise for an even more matte finishing and the yet again beautiful package, intrigues me.
The Comparison
First thing I did after my little jump for joy was opening the bottle to sniff the product. While my boyfriend didn’t get my act of weirdly sniffing around, those who have read my previous jane iredale review might remember that the scent of the standard primer was glorious. This 2.0 version has the same scent but very subtle. Some might rather have it subtle, but personally I think the regular smooth affair scores better in this area.
Now obviously, the most important thing you wanna know: Does it really makes your skin less greasy-looking through the day? Honestly: I don’t know. I can’t really say I notice a clear difference when I combine it with my Purepressed base mineral foundation. Maybe the reason for that is because the regular one already works very well for me.
However (there is a however people!), when combining it with the Glow Time full coverage mineral bb cream, it clearly has impact! When I combined those two, the otherwise shiny areas around my nose, chin and forehead were as good as ignorable. Double win seeing how I use this combination when it’s sunny (for some extra sun protection) and well, heat makes it very easy for my skin to shine bright like a diamond.
Conclusion
I’ve been using this new variant of the Smooth Affair on a daily base now for a couple of weeks, although I don’t really notice big differences when combining it with the Purepressed base mineral foundation, I do see a big difference when combining it with the BB cream. A big downside for me is the scent. Not that it’s bad, far from it, but it was pretty hard to beat the regular one and I prefer the strong fruity scent in the morning over of the subtle version.
My opinion, if you have an oily skin but you already use the regular Smooth affair in combination with the PurePressed base mineral foundation, stick to your guns. If you use the BB cream, go run to the nearest store where they sell jane iredale products. Run! Faster.
