Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! This day is about family and food, so a food post seems perfect for today! I spotted this recipe a few weeks ago and have prepared it 3 times since. Because the original recipe is in Dutch, I’ll quickly go over the steps below in English. Everyone, really everyone, should give this one a try. It’s super easy and crazy good + approved by many of my colleagues. And they know a thing or two about yummy desserts! And who knows, maybe you’re still in need of a dessert after eating your stuffed turkey? ;)
What you need for one cake:
• 200 gram butter (room temperature)
• 200 gram self-rising flour
• 4 eggs
• 200 gram sugar
• 1 bag vanilla sugar
• 4 caramel waffles (or more if you like)
Preheat the oven to 165°C/329°F, pre-measure all your ingredients so everything is within reach, and pick out a baking tin.
Crumble two caramel waffles into small pieces and two in bigger chunks. Keep them apart.
Eat one caramel waffle so you won’t eat the crumbled chunks and end up empty-handed when you need them.
7. Put the cake in the middle of the oven for about 40-60 minutes. The original recipe said 60 minutes, but I already took mine out after 40 minutes as my knife came out all clean. (I admit, I was hoping on some leftovers on the knife to get already a pre-taste.)
LE MOMENT SUPREME
Take the cake out of the oven and let it be for about 30 minutes. To be honest, I couldn’t wait. Not because I wanted to eat the entire thing right away (okay maybe that too), but mainly because it was getting dark outside. So taking pictures was literally getting more difficult by the minute … And no way that cake was gonna survive the rest of the evening.
Now you eat. Eat and enjoy damnit!
